Boss Clash is a mode of Monster's Den. It is unlocked at Kingdom Level 12, alongside with the barracks. You'll recruit soldiers in the barracks to build an army to tackle monster bosses.
Here you can earn:
- Some Gold and Kingdom Experience from related quests (two quests for each kind of boss)
- A little (~25) Honor Stars from each fight.
- Common quality Equipments
- Shards for Keel equipments
- All the resources needed to upgrade your Barracks (Madantium, Rock Block, Magic Hammer)
- Elemental Contract to research your Magic Skills
- Vigilance Points for your Daily Tasks reward
Magic[]
Magic is the limitation to the number of battles you can fight here. Each battle consumes 10 magic, and you recover 100 magic per day.
The maximum level of Magic is 120. If no Boss Clash battles are played for two days the Magic level increases to 120.
Additional Magic can be purchased with Diamonds, (click the green "+" button to the right to open the Buy Mana window) as long as the total Magic doesn't exceed 120. The additional Magic is called "Mana" and 5 "Mana" (50 Magic) can be purchased each day for 5 Diamonds each.
Strategy[]
Why play Boss Clash?[]
Playing Boss Clash is expensive. It can be very expensive when each battle is at the outer edge of your BP and soldier performance, like battling every time against the toughest boss you can beat.
Here is a rough idea of the expected soldier losses and the cost of their replacement (all data from F2P mode):
level |
level |
Boss level |
Daily loss |
Recruitment cost per 1000 |
Recruitment cost Gold and time |
earned |
Daily income |
Recruitment cost as % of income |
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
25 | 15 | 19 | 21,000 | 35.42 Gold |
744 Gold 25 min |
164 | 18,920 Gold | 3.93% |
55 | 44 | 46 | 150,000 | 35.08 Gold |
5263 Gold 127 min |
370 | 49,000 Gold |
10.74% OUCH!!! |
As a reward for spending 11% of our Kingdom's income we get to do:
- Winning Fighting Pits, Crown Port, Mysterious Island, and Prison battles (need Barracks upgrades, Equipment for Heroes);
- Getting Heroes and upgrading them (need Honor Stars);
- Completing Quests (get Gold, Experience, and Items);
- Winning World battles (get Elemental Contracts);
- Getting free stuff for Events (Event Items);
- Having fun playing Boss Clash battles every 5 minutes (never mind...).
Your soldiers[]
When you fight battles here, you lose soldiers. Your losses seem to be a percentage of the troops you use, so if you attack with maxed troops, you may lose more troopers than if you attack with half empty. Don't lower them too much, though, for you spend the magic (the fight chance) no matter if you win or lose. Also, Honor Stars are somehow related to the number of your soldiers that are killed in battle. In short, keep soldiers at max for best results, reduce this number at your own risk.
Perhaps... In a long run the number of lost soldiers seems to depend on the difference in strength/soldiers. Also, there is a lot of random variation in Boss Clash battles and two back-to-back battles without changing anything may give 15% difference in lost soldiers, up or down. At this point a lot more data is needed to get the answer with some confidence, perhaps several hundred battles.
Boss Soldiers[]
All bosses have a number of soldiers significantly higher than their Battle Power would indicate (see the Boss List below). It is recommended to increase your Barracks Level steadily to try to match this, for the size of the army has a big effect in these battles, probably even more than the Battle Power difference
Formation[]
Even though this looks like a PVP battle, don't bother to change your formation. Bosses' soldiers are all of the same type and none of them have exploitable weaknesses. Also note that your formation here is separate from yours for PvP.
Battle Power[]
The game's guidelines about "recommended Battle Power" are worthless, in part because of the big size of the bosses armies. Make sure you are amply above the recommended BP before challenging a new boss.
Yes, but... While the cautious approach works fine a more aggressive play may result in faster Quest progress. Winning a battle also depends on the strength of your soldiers and heroes. Soldiers can be upgraded with Tears of Shiva in the Hall of Heroes. With upgraded soldiers and equipped, augmented, and leveled up Heroes it is possible to beat bosses with higher BP and larger number of soldiers. Examples (all F2P):
- player BP 7950, 4565 soldiers lvl 10, heroes Knight C lvl 18, Robin C lvl 11, equipment lvl 10, 50% augmented beat Soul Mage with BP 8500 and 6400 soldiers;
- player BP 131089, 36400 soldiers lvl 60, heroes Knight C lvl 49, Robin C lvl 32, Korina C lvl 34, Durin C lvl 30, equipment lvl 16, 70% augmented beat Mummy Enforcer with BP 159000 and 36000 soldiers.
These numbers are meant as a rough guideline for what is possible. There is always a chance of losing a battle in an aggressive test. This may be an acceptable risk for getting your Quests done earlier and advancing faster in the game. Also, above Kingdom lvl 35 increasing BP by capturing prisoners is a legitimate way to get a Training or Wipeout Quest done sooner.
Bosses' Armor[]
Every bosses in Boss Clash has armor same as in map. So if you challenge a boss with physical armor, it is better to use best equipments and jewels on Korina Chantress, because she can pierce armor, if you challenging a boss with magical armor then use best equipments and jewels on Vord Knight because Vord Knight has physical armor.
For example, I challenged Steel Monster Instructor (last boss in Boss Clash from Mech Warship map) when I used best equipments on Durin Atomika and I lose with 1402855 Battle Power and 202830 soldiers. Then I changed the best equipments from Durin Atomika to Korina Chantress with same status then I defeated the boss.
Quests[]
- The first time you defeat a new boss, you'll get a reward (supposing you are up to date with the chain of quests). If you are not (you may have defeated several bosses by the time you get the first quest), backtrack and start fulfilling them.
- After you've passed the first quest, which entails defeating a certain type of boss once, you'll get a second (Wipe Out) quest that asks you to defeat that boss five times. Only after fulfilling this order you'll be able to get a quest reward from defeating the next one.
Repeated battles after quests[]
After you've defeated each boss the required six times to reap quests' rewards, it's probably better if you backtrack a little and start battling weaker bosses for your Daily Tasks. This way, you'll get a slightly inferior reward, but you'll lose many less soldiers, so you'll spend considerably less gold on recruiting.
Consecutive battles[]
The Boss Clash feature allows you to spend all your magic at once so you don't have to click through every screen for every battle. If you select the "auto-fill lost soldiers" your soldiers will always fight on maximum amount. And with the latest patch (.172) this won't be a problem as soldier loss, no longer depends on input soldier amount.
Note: Beware of the "auto-fill" bug.
If you however lose a battle in these consecutive clashes (due to prisoners stolen, accidental equipment removal, insufficient soldiers left,...), the automated sequence will break. You will only lose 10 magic from the fail, but you won't lose all your tries.
How the get (most of) the Boss Clash stuff for less and get (some of) your life back?[]
Most (perhaps 3/4 or more) of Boss Clash battles are played after the Wipeout Quests are completed and before the next Training Quest. Let's take a look at a mixed strategy:
- Aggressive fighting the highest boss possible for the Quests (5+1 consecutive battles, see Battle Power section above);
- Economically fighting weaker bosses for max gain while upgrading BP and soldiers for the next Training Quest.
Let's look at some results from a day of fighting (10 battles) in the Kingdom lvl 55 from the beginning of this section.
Boss level |
Cost | Rewards | ||||||
---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
loss |
Recruitment Gold and time |
Madantium |
Common quality Gear Chest |
|||||
46 | 150,000 |
5,263 Gold 127 min |
370 | 3.5 | 2 | 1 | lvl 40 x2.5 | 1 |
38 |
56,000 63% less |
1,964 Gold 47.5 min 3,299 Gold less 79.5 min less |
265 105 less 28% less |
3.5 same |
2 same |
0.6 0.4 less 40% less |
lvl 30 x3 20% more |
1 same |
Gain. By stepping down to a (carefully selected) lesser boss level we can save 3,299 Gold every day we don't do Quests, get 80 min (8 recruitment cycles) of life back, and even get an extra Gear Chest every five days or so.
Loss. The biggest cost is the 40% reduction in Magic Hammers. This is the main point to consider - look at your Inventory, look at your Gold, look at your game time. There are 28% less Honor Stars earned (but those actually earned are 48% cheaper), so this may not be a great deal while still collecting the Heroes (which should be finished by Kingdom lvl 33 or so, anyway).
Maybe. The Gear Chest is at lvl 30 instead of lvl 40. If you use them mostly to Disassemble them to get Stones both chests give the same one Stone from 60% Low Grade Disassemble. If you use them for anything else, speak up.
How To Fight?[]
It seems Heroes' powers affects the battle a lot. For example when I made a level 6 Ruby and lose it on Vord Knight and having level 3 instead I lose to fight to King of Sands which I could easly win on. It wasn't matter of total BP loss, it was matter of the Hero power loss.
Also bosses' defense stats seem to get affected their monster counterparts. When I have strengthen Korina and test this I could to make beat Steel Monster Instructor. And they have Heavy physical armor whereas King of Sands has Heavy magic armor. So it works. Just test it.
Boss List[]
- All bosses are the Elite version of World Map enemies.
- Also applies to Search for Lost Treasure and Mysterious Island.
Legend[]
- BP = Boss Battle Power / Recommended Battle Power
- S = Boss Soldiers
Battle Log[]
The Battle Log stores the results of the eight most recent battles. Each battle can be replayed.
Battle Log can be useful when reviewing the results of unattended consecutive battles with auto-filled soldiers.
In addition to battles from Boss Clash the battles from Mysterious Island (the Bandit Encounters) will also show up in this Battle Log. See the green log entry in the image to the right.
